More Than a Food Truck: The Story Behind Truck of Deliciousness
When you smell the savory aroma of fresh-cut fries and grilled cheese wafting through the air at a local Maryland festival or private event, you might just be catching the signature scent of Chris Robertson and his team with Truck of Deliciousness.
By serving up handcrafted comfort food that resonates with the warmth of home, Chris Robertson has transformed a simple food truck into a local staple at community events, private gatherings and neighborhood pools.
We sat down with Chris to discuss his journeys as the man behind the wheel of one of the areas most delicious food trucks.

How It All Started
Chris didn’t always spend his days in the Food and Beverage industry. For years, he worked within the steady, familiar trade of his family’s heating and air conditioning business.
But while the work was rewarding, a deeper ambition simmered beneath the surface.
Chris had recently graduated from Towson University and was looking for an opportunity to build something of his own. While working on a marketing case study in college, he had begun thinking more seriously about entrepreneurship.
On one hand, Chris had always wanted to own a restaurant, but opening a traditional location required more capital, more overhead, and more risk than he was prepared to take on at the time.
A food truck felt like a more practical starting point.
“I always wanted a restaurant, but starting out, a food truck was more feasible,” Chris said. “It wasn’t as expensive and didn’t have as much overhead.”
With that in mind, he began building his first truck in 2013 and was selling food by 2014.
While Chris didn’t come into the industry with formal culinary training, he had done some restaurant work in the past. That said, much of what he learned came through trial, error and an unwavering passion for food.
He enjoyed cooking, understood marketing, and wanted the freedom of working for himself.
That was enough to get started. And after 12 years in an industry that has a failure rate of 60% within the first 3 years, he’s surpassed the majority of entrepreneurs in his space.
The Philosophy of “Deliciousness”
True to its name, Chris’s menu is an evolving tapestry of American comfort food.
What began with gourmet grilled cheeses and breakfast items has evolved into a full-flavor experience featuring fan favorites like the Buffalo Chicken Grilled Cheese and the Barbecue Burger: a towering creation complete with BBQ, onion rings and bacon.
The core of his business is built on a “quality first” philosophy.
One of the most distinct elements of the Truck of Deliciousness is the commitment to fresh-cut fries. Drawing inspiration from the legendary boardwalk fries of Ocean City, Chris aimed to bring that authentic, nostalgic flavor to his truck while most are serving frozen fries.
In addition, by securing a liquor license and operating a mobile bar, Chris has evolved his business into a one-stop shop for weddings, graduations, and corporate events, ensuring that every detail of a client’s celebration is handled with care.

More Than a Few Hours Behind the Window
The typical perception customers have of the food industry is limited to seeing the hours of operation and the observing the quality of the burger that hits their plate. They see the truck arrive, the window open, and the food begin coming out. There’s no reason to think past that.
What they do not see are the hours surrounding that service.
A breakfast event may require Chris to wake up at 4 a.m. Other jobs can run late into the evening. Even when the truck is only serving for two or three hours, the entire workday can stretch to 12 hours or more.
There is shopping to complete, food to prepare, equipment to inspect, messages to answer, and schedules to coordinate.
Then there is the truck itself.
Food trucks take a beating on the road. Equipment shifts. Parts break. Electrical problems appear without warning. Chris has learned that operating a mobile kitchen often requires him to think like a cook, business owner, mechanic, and electrician at the same time.
“You’re always doing something,” he said. “You’re picking stuff up. You’re prepping. You’re answering emails and calls. It’s definitely a lot more labor-intensive than people think.”
Fortunately he doesn’t face all this alone. His wife helps with the business when her schedule allows, balancing time on the truck with her own full-time bartending job.
Together, along with their incredible team members, they handle the work required to keep Truck of Deliciousness moving from one event to the next.

Hungry for Success: A Community Connection
For Chris, success is measured by more than just the number of burgers sold. It is about the impact left behind in the community.
This dedication is most evident in the “Hungry for Success” Scholarship at Anne Arundel Community College (AACC). Through this initiative, the Truck of Deliciousness provides financial assistance to students striving to reach their own professional goals.
“It’s our way of trying to give back to the community to help people just reach their goals,” Chris says.
Whether he’s serving families at the St. Andrews pool or supporting neighborhood festivals at Belvedere Elementary School, that personal touch remains at the forefront of everything he does. He isn’t just a vendor, he’s a neighbor building a legacy of hospitality.

Looking Ahead
Today, the Truck of Deliciousness stands as an inspiration in local entrepreneurship. Chris Robertson has navigated the challenges of the industry by staying true to his roots and maintaining a relentless focus on reputation.
As he looks to the future, his goal remains clear: to continue growing while providing the high-quality service and community support that has made him a local legend.
